Located approximately 125km north-west of the Shetland Islands, the Laggan and Tormore fields represent the future of the UK oil and gas industry.
Being a good neighbour
Over the years the islands have benefited from a charitable trust which was set up when the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal was built. A levy is paid to the trust, which is then used to provide high quality services and infrastructure for the community. TEP UK will pay a similar levy, directly to the Shetland Islands Council.

We are also working closely with schools in the area surrounding the gas plant. Junior Road Safety Officers from all the local schools visit the site on an annual basis, so that we can demonstrate how we and our contractors view road safety as a priority. We hope to develop our work with the schools over the coming years, including promoting the Green Schools awards.
We have also undertaken to sponsor fifteen young people from Shetland to complete an oil and gas technician apprenticeship with OPITO. The places will be fully funded and we will recruit five new learners per annum during the initial years of the construction phase. The final round of applications is now open and our current recruits are progressing well.
As part of our commitment to the environment, we have also agreed to sponsor the Shetland Environmental Awards which take place in November every year. These awards have been running for over 20 years and have showcased some excellent examples of sustainability over that time.
We have appointed a Third Party Interface Co-ordinator to the project, who’s role is specifically aimed at ensuring that the Shetland Community are kept informed and consulted at all times.
Once construction is complete the Shetland Gas Plant will become an important part of Shetland's future, helping to ensure its continued sustainability and prosperity in the years to come.
