Located approximately 125km north-west of the Shetland Islands, the Laggan and Tormore fields represent the future of the UK oil and gas industry.
Custodians of the environment
TEP UK’s Laggan-Tormore project involves construction activities in environmentally sensitive areas, both onshore and offshore. Shetland is a unique environment it is circled by the Gulf Stream which provides a rich source of food for a great diversity of bird and marine life. Shetland also supports an internationally important otter population and many seals.

The Laggan-Tormore environmental team has played a key role in obtaining consent for the project from the authorities. The team consulted a wide variety of stake holders and carried out significant surveys of the marine and terrestrial habitats and animals to prepare the project Environmental Statements. The surveys were carried out by specialists with detailed knowledge of the local ecology from Shetland itself, Orkney and the Scottish mainland.
The Environmental Statements also identify the measures to be taken throughout the design, construction and operational phases of Laggan-Tormore to ensure that the project’s impact on the environment is reduced as far as practicable. The environmentalists will work with the other members of the Laggan-Tormore team to ensure that these controls are put in place effectively.
