Laggan-Tormore: One Message, One Priority.

Innovating. Pioneering. Involving. Protecting.

Located approximately 125km north-west of the Shetland Islands, the Laggan and Tormore fields represent the future of the UK oil and gas industry.

Fast Facts

Background

  • Laggan-Tormore is a strategic development opening up the West of Shetland for future development
  • The Laggan field lies 125km West of Shetland, with the Tormore field a further 16km South West
  • These fields lie in 600m of water in the harshest environment in the UK
  • They contain more than 1 trillion cubic feet of gas, plus some condensates - equating to about 230 million barrels of oil equivalent
  • Peak production rates are expected to be about 500 million standard cubic feet per day
  • The development costs of this project are in the order of £2.5 billion
  • TOTAL, with an 80% interest, will develop Laggan-Tormore with partners Dong (20%)

Concept

  • The subsea production system offshore will consist of two six slot production template-manifolds
  • The commingled, multiphase fluid stream will be transported to shore via two 18” production flowlines
  • A new Gas Processing Plant will be built adjacent to the existing Sullom Voe Terminal and will be known as the Shetland Gas Plant
  • Processed gas will be exported via a new pipeline, with capacity for up to 665 MMscfd gas, 230km south to a tie in point on the existing Frigg UK (FUKA) pipeline
  • From here it will be transported to the TOTAL operated St Fergus Gas Terminal near Peterhead
  • The Shetland Gas Plant facility will occupy an area of approximately 540,000 m², of which the plant will occupy 250,000 m ²
  • A 2.4 km road will be built to access the new plant
  • There will be one Flare approximately 60m high
  • There are likely to be some 700 construction workers on site during peak construction in 2012
  • Once operational, the plant is likely to employ 60-70 personnel

West of Shetland

  • West of Shetland has the potential to produce 2.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent
  • West of Shetland holds around 17% of the UK’s remaining oil and gas reserves
